“Wellness is not found in isolation but in relationship…There is no such thing as ultimate separation …between the well-being of the human species and earth’s other species...” (Newell, A New Harmony)
The past three weeks, Eden Club topics have been focusing on Habitats, Photosynthesis and Food Chains. Teaching these lessons, I have been reminded just how interdependent all living things are. I imagine the Creator, lost in the art of creating; breathing life into countless muddy messes with infinite variety and diversity, all reflecting His nature and shouting His glory. Weaving all of this diversity together is God’s insistence on relationship between all created things. Not a flippant ‘take it or leave it’ kind of relationship, either, but absolute interdependence. Whether we recognize it or not, our well-being and survival is intimately connected to the earth, its systems and all other living beings. The Giver and Sustainer of Life and Breath has determined that it be so, perhaps to quell our insatiable desire to be independent, to remind us that we are not gods, but creatures, dependent on Love and each other for well-being. In what ways do I live in harmony with this creation principle? To what extent do I violate it?
